Newcomers and new volunteers won’t be able to miss The Disabled Surfers Association South West when they meet at Bunker Bay this weekend.
The association has finally received its new rash shirts, which they were able to purchase thanks to a community grant from Westpac.
The association used the $10,000 grant to purchase more than 170 rashies and used remaining funds to produce lifting mats for all 18 of Disabled Surfers Association branches across Australia and New Zealand.
South West branch president Ant Pursell expressed his gratitude for the donation.
He explained prior to the new rash shirts, the not-for-profit had been using the same second-hand items for almost ten years.
Westpac Busselton bank manager Kirsten Naude will be one of the volunteers who dons the new threads, and Luther Frost-Barnes is stoked to go surfing in brand new attire.
Luther has participated in the surf days for the past seven years. A keen sportsman, Luther said he enjoyed the chance to go surfing.
“I love surfing, I really like how nice and cool it is,” he said.
The next South West event is this Saturday, January 19. For more information, visit disabledsurfers.org/wa/south-west-branch.
