Federal Member for Forrest Nola Marino was in Margaret River last week to announce the funding of new dive blocks for the swimming pool at the Margaret River Recreation Centre.
The Recreation Centre received the $22,500 grant to help with the installation costs as part of the Federal Government’s Community Sport Infrastructure Grant program.
Shire Recreation Operations manager Dylan Brown said the Margaret River Swim Club would see immediate benefit from the blocks once installed.
“We had diving blocks years ago, and these new diving blocks will just be able to increase the function of the club,” Mr Brown said.
“Currently the club can’t hold any club meets or inter-club meets south of Busselton because of the lack of the blocks, so for the club it’s a big bonus.
“We contributed $1500 towards the blocks but the majority of the funds are from this grant which we are very pleased to have received, because I understand it is quite a competitive funding program.
Currently the club can’t hold any inter-club meets south of Busselton because of the lack of the blocks, so for the club it’s a big bonus.

“It was only open for six weeks and I think there was around 611 submissions in WA, and around 2000 Australia-wide, and we received one.”
Mr Brown said without the grant the blocks would not have been a priority for installation for the club, which boasts between 30 to 50 current members.
It is expected that the diving blocks will be installed towards the end of April.
