Residents in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River are on alert after a bushfire advice was issued in the Warner Glen area on Sunday February 17.
People in the vicinity of the Warner Glen bridge on the Blackwood River were advised to stay alert and monitor their surroundings, with a lot of smoke affecting the area.
It is understood the fire started near the intersection of Leath Road and Blackwood River in Schroeder, around 20 minutes south east of Margaret River.
It was reported to authorities at 6.15am on Sunday.
As of 8.30am around 20 Parks and Wildlife Service and local Bushfire Brigade firefighters were on the scene actively fighting the blaze.
Aerial support has been sent to assist ground crews.
WHAT TO DO:
Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.
Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.
Read through your bushfire survival plan.
If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse.
IF DRIVING:
Be extremely careful when driving through the area.
Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.
