Creative Corner in coordination with Country Arts WA is bringing a new initiative to support South West communities to connect, collaborate and create together.
The Local Leadership Program will be launched in Margaret River in March, and will support locals to build teams, share knowledge and drive projects utilising existing assets in our community.
Creative Corner is the peak body for the creative sector in the South West region of Western Australia; connecting people, businesses, services and events with each other and with opportunities within and outside the region.
Creative Corner works to support and grow the local creative sector and position the South West as an internationally recognised region of excellence in creativity and innovation that attracts and retains people to drive a sustainable local economy.
Creative Corner is one of the four organisations in Country Arts WA’s Regional Arts Hubs pilot program.
The intent of the Regional Arts Hubs program is to increase creative self-sufficiency and autonomy to strengthen local capacity, economy, and community in regional and remote areas of the State.
Country Arts WA is a non-profit independent organisation and the peak Western Australian body for regional arts and culture.
Participants in the program will discover how to uncover and develop their own leadership skills through Positive Psychology approaches and Asset-Based Community Driven Development practices.
Country Arts WA Network Director Barb Howard will facilitate the new Local Leadership Program. Ms Howard said the program will equip participants to use their community’s strengths to create a meaningful impact.
“Leadership is not a position, it’s a way of being that enables you to help others to shine,” she said.
“The program is for those committed to developing their leadership skill-set. It’s designed for people who work in teams and recognise the importance in working well with other people.
“The skills this program provides will give these committed leaders the power to deliver their own ambitious projects in their community and create the connected, creative community they and their teams want.”
In addition to three two-day face-to-face workshops across three months, professional one- on-one coaching to receive structure, guidance and support to develop skills and project ideas, as well as buddy coaching sessions with other participants will be implemented.
