Young Margaret River athlete Ashlee Jarvis has been called to play for Western Australia, announced as a selection in the State Hockey Team this month.
Being the only girl selected from the Busselton Hockey Association's catchment area - in which Ashlee's club, the Margaret River Hockey Club, competes - is an honour for the student now in her sixth year of playing the sport.
"I love playing as a team and working together to win the game, or do well, and just the thrill I get while playing," she said.
Hockey is a sport widely played in the Margaret River region, with the local club fielding a large group of talented players despite having to travel en masse to Busselton each week for training and games.
"The Margaret River Club has the best values of sportsmanship with our 'above the line" motto," said Jarvis.
"They are always a supportive club and I love playing with them."
Jarvis said she was over the moon to be playing for her State and was looking forward to her first time on the team, hoping to leverage her experience to future great heights in the sport.
"I hope to go as far as I can," she told the Mail.
I would love someday to represent Australia just like Aran Zalewski who played for Margaret River as a junior and is now playing for the Australian men's team.

"I'll keep trying to improve.
"I would love someday to represent Australia just like Aran Zalewski who played for Margaret River as a junior and is now playing for the Australian men's team, the Kookaburras."
The WA Under 15 Boy’s and Girl’s teams will travel to Narellan in New South Wales, to compete in the U15 Australian Championships from April 8th-14th.
Jarvis will join players from teams across Perth as well as Collie, Kalgoorlie and beyond, to face other State teams during competition. Training will commence in earnest this Friday February 22.
