Passionate South West based hockey players wanting to perfect their skills are being encouraged to participate in BRM Coaching Academy's upcoming hockey trial.
Last year was the academy's first time with the program which had founding athletes from Capel and Pinjarra.
As a result, the academy saw a need to develop the skills of young hockey players aged 13 - 18 living in rural, remote, and regional WA.
The South West Hockey Trial is a way for the academy to give advice and feedback to young players on their playing ability, and to sign any interested players onto their programs.
The BRM Coaching Academy head coach Jerome Buck said their under 18's and rookie development programs give young athletes a chance.
"We are providing opportunities in regional, rural and remote WA for young hockey players who otherwise wouldn't be able to be given the opportunity due to geography," he said.
"We are looking for players that are passionate, committed to their hockey, and wanting to learn and get better."
Mr Buck said their programs were "more than just hockey programs."
There are several parts to each program, including: health and wellbeing, strength and conditioning, coaching support, hearing from other advanced players in the field, training camps, and an opportunity to play over in the Eastern states at the end of this year, and furthermore, overseas.
"We are trying to give them the skills to better manage themselves, not just in hockey, but in life," he said.
Mr Buck said if players really couldn't get to a trial in person they could submit a digital trial via email.
"A player can submit a quick video of themselves in action and email it to us. Then if that player is keen we will make an effort to get out and see them in their own hockey environment," he said.
One of BRM's three founding hockey players Rachael Dowling from Capel said she started playing hockey at six years old.
"I love playing because it's such a team orientated sport," she said.
Rachael said she only started getting serious about hockey last year when she was picked up by the academy.
"I joined CCA in Melbourne and I also participated in the FHS Cup in Perth," she said.
The coaching academy is great to get involved in, to learn more hockey skills, gain experience, and also to go on a sporting trip to either Melbourne or Sydney later in the year."
Rachael said the coaching academy gives young hockey players living in the South West that extra advantage to then, potentially, become some of the best players in the state.
"We don't usually get to show what we have to offer otherwise," she said.
Rachael said in the future she would like to coach younger hockey players.
The South West Trial will be held at the Bunbury Indoor Cricket and Sports Centre from 8:30am - 10am on Sunday, March 24. It is recommended you check in 15 minutes before the trial commences.
