Margaret River's iconic Settlers Tavern is preparing to welcome a massive influx of Easter weekend visitors looking for some genuine South West entertainment and hospitality.
To keep their punters happy, the Tav crew - led by entertainment coordinator Gilly Reid - have lined up a huge weekend of live music.
"The Tavern has been committed to supporting and promoting local musicians and bands since those very early days in the 1970s," said Ms Reid. "We're really focusing on bringing back that hometown vibe to the stage and providing as many opportunities as possible to those local artists to play right here in town on a stage that has hosted some of the world's best musicians."
Kicking off the fun on Easter Saturday, Margaret River's very own surf guitar band The Frothers will take to the stage from 9.30pm.
"We are so stoked to be playing at the Tav over Easter," said The Frothers' 'Animal', aka drummer Lee Cummings. "Between all of us in the band we have played here countless times, in heaps of different bands and alongside some big name artists too.
Inspired by the sounds of the classic 50s and 60s surf rock bands, The Frothers crank out tunes like Apache, Wipeout and Miserlou. "It's a really Down South vibe at our shows, I think it speaks to the people of the South West especially those of us who have grown up in the waves and on the coast," he said.
On Sunday, Fiji born multi instrumentalist Jay Hoad continues the weekend entertainment as he tours around the South West, kicking off his set at 3pm. Later that evening, Fremantle-based Lincoln MacKinnon & the Wrecking Train will launch their new single from 9pm. Entry to all shows are free, which Ms Reid said allowed locals and visitors to soak up the essence of a Margaret River long weekend.
"One of the best things about this venue is everyone is welcome, it truly is a meeting place for all walks of life," she said. "We have families, there are tradies and surfers and business owners at the bar, tour groups, every type of person you can think of comes into the Tav and I think that's what it is all about, that sense of belonging and being allowed to be yourself."
