Pride, passion, commitment and discipline was the order of the day, and boy the Dungbeetles did not disappoint, as they hosted the Margaret River Gropers.

Walking from the changing shed out onto the hallowed turf of Barnard Park, a sense of pride could be seen on the faces of the Dungbeetles as they wore their new rugby jerseys for the first time at home this year.

From the kick off, the Beetles forward pack layed the foundations with first, second, third and fourth phase ball then out to the sleek and hard running back line of the Beetles.

The Gropers must have thought they had run into a brick wall, as there was no give in the Beetles' defense.

Then the attack phases along with sublime draw and pass rugby eventually saw gaps appear in the Gropers' defensive line.

Hard running Fijian winger Donavan sliced his way through the Gropers back line untouched to score his first try in the Beetles colours.

Score: 7 points to nil.

Not to be out done the Beetles' forward pack muscled their way off a well drilled line out, to set up a text book driving maul towards the Gropers' try line; and in turn a rampaging bull of a man, Billy Watts smashed his way across the Gropers' try line.

Try converted, 14 points to nil.

In true Gropers' grit they came at the Beetles' hard in attack of the kick off and managed to put together good set phase ball to their hard running forwards who crashed across the Beetles' try line.

Score: Beetles 14 - Gropers 7.

Game on!

Beetles sticking to their game plan and strategies came straight back at the Gropers, with the forwards muscling their way back to the Gropers' try line, and quick thinking Irish lad, Eamonn crashing over for his first try.

Beetles 21 - Gropers 7.

In the second half Dungbeetles were hot on attack towards the coast of Geographe Bay, and once again Fijian flyer Donavan shrugged off some lazy Gropers' tacklers and sprinted down the left hand sideline to score in the left hand corner.

Beetles 26 - Gropers 7.

Not to be out done, the Gropers fought back hard out wide and through an off side Beetles player and a infringement off the ball, the referee awarded the Gropers with a penalty try.

The Gropers came out hard off the kick off and pushed the Beetles into a unforced error, setting up a try to the Gropers.

Beetles 26 - Gropers 21.

Kick off, once again the Beetles regrouped and came at the Gropers try line through their forward pack 1st phase then 2nd phase and then pick and drive from from staunch flanker Chris Temple, Beetles 33 Gropers 21.

The Gropers came out hard from the kick off, but the staunch defense from in side and out side backs, Daniel Dewaal, Drew Joines and Izak Atkinson stood their ground in defense.

The Gropers then gave away a easy penalty to the Beetles and 3 points, Beetles 36 Gropers 21.

With the clock ticking down the Gropers made a late charge and managed to cross over for a try.

Final siren sounded, Dungbeetles 36 Gropers 26.
