The Margaret River Chocolate Company has made what it believes to be the World's Largest Giant Chocolate Freckle to coincide with its 20th Birthday and the production of its 500,000th giant chocolate freckle.
Giant chocolate freckles were one of the first products ever created by the company and they have been a consistent best seller for 20 years since the business began in 1999.
In making the World's Largest Chocolate Freckle the company is giving customers the opportunity to guess its weight and win $1000 worth of chocolate products.
Once the competition is over the giant freckle will be broken into pieces and given out to visitors to the company's two factories in the Swan Valley and Margaret River.
The Margaret River Chocolate Company's co-owner Martin Black said almost 80,000kgs of chocolate had been used to make the company's popular giant freckles over a 20 year period, as well as ten of millions of hundreds and thousands.
He said a substantial trail of hundreds and thousands could be made between Perth and Margaret River using the same quantity.
"We wanted to do something quirky and fun to mark our 20th birthday so a giant, giant freckle was an obvious choice," Mr Black said.
"We're actually having a Festival of Freckles through until the end of the July school holidays featuring some limited edition Ruby Freckles as well as mini freckles of all varieties."
Customers who can't visit the Swan Valley factory to see the giant, giant freckle to guess its weight can enter at the Margaret River factory or Perth city store or alternatively look at it on-line at the company's website www.chocolatefactory.com.au and then enter on-line.
The competition will run until the end of the July school holidays.
