An opportunity for locals to discuss social housing options will be made available next week, aimed at helping to deliver housing solutions for residents in the lower South West.
Just Home Margaret River and the Department of Communities are collaborating to provide local appointments to deliver more accessible housing services directly to Augusta Margaret River residents.
Katie Gray, Just Home's Housing Advocacy Officer said the appointments were valuable to community members experiencing housing stress.
"It is our most vulnerable in the community, old age and disability pensioners and low income earners, that need social housing and are often the least likely to own their own vehicle to be able to drive to Busselton to apply," Ms Gray said.
"We have also seen that many people on low incomes and, single parents aren't even aware they are eligible for social housing."
Just Home Margaret River is a grassroots movement for housing justice led by community members with current or previous experience of homelessness, and their allies.
"We have also seen that many people on low incomes and, single parents aren't even aware they are eligible for social housing."
In her role as Housing Advocacy Officer, Ms Gray has worked with more than 70 individuals and families experiencing housing stress or homelessness over the past two years but very few of those who are eligible have applied for social housing.
On the 22nd July 2019, Just Home and a Department of Communities staff member will be available at the Margaret River Community Centre for appointments to assist you with your social housing applications and enquires.
If you would like to make an application or enquiry for social housing please note appointment times will be limited and bookings are required.
Please call Katie Gray at Just Home 0431 150 836 or email housingofficer@justhome.org.au to make your booking.
