The Margaret River region might be known for its reds but for one week in August, pink is the colour of choice.
Pink Up Our Region is a week of community activities which will raise funds for McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurses.
Its origins are in the The Biggest Break, a week initiated by Debbie Noonan where a week of accommodation in the Margaret River region was donated for cancer patients.
"So many places jumped on board, so from there it was decided to Pink Up the region," said the committee's publicity and promotions chair Janice Platt.
"Debbie put a call out to the community, and I was in the Margaret River BTA and my husband's family was going through cancer at the time, so I signed up. I never understood just how far reaching cancer is," she said.
"As a cause, the McGrath Foundation's Pink Up Your Town resonated with us."
The committee chairs now comprise Debbie, Nina Concannon, who was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour in 2013 but has enjoyed two years of clear cancer scans, Karen Crutchlow who is living well with a diagnosis of metastatic stage IV breast cancer, Garret Piper from IPA Advisors as the finance chair, Cynthia Matthews as events chair, and Janice.
Janice said the community has been incredibly supportive of the event and there are plenty of ways to join in between August 5 and 11.
Events include a Pink Sundowner at Tanah Marah, pink themed artworks at The Margaret River Gallery, Pink nougat from Bettenays, pink walks, pink tours with Margaret River Unplugged, a yoga class for people living or caring for someone with cancer, and a special morning tea at South Regional TAFE Margaret River campus.
Bussleton Jetty will even go pink.
The week will culminate with The Pink Ball at The Beer Farm - a rock n roll evening with the theme of angels. Tickets include food, drink and entertainment.
"There will also be a silent auction for which we have been overwhelmed with the donations by the region's businesses.
"Gunnaways have also donated all the transport for the evening - there is a charge but it will all be donated," she said.
