The Margaret River Hockey Club has raised a whopping $300,000 towards the construction of their new training facilities.
The club is now calling on the community to have their say in their survey aimed at establishing the level of local support for a synthetic training turf to be constructed in Margaret River.
"At present the teams of the Margaret River Hockey Club all have to train in Busselton," said club Fundraising & Sponsorship officer Maxine Williams. "For our club to grow, we need to provide a training surface to help players from Margaret River and around the region, to provide facilities for students from the local schools within walking distance, and to make it a more attractive travel proposition for those coming up from Augusta and Karridale."
The planned surface will be multi purpose, meaning other sporting clubs will be able to utilise it.
"Members of the Margaret River Football Club, and the rugby club would also be able to use the space for fitness training."
The project has received extensive support from local organisations and has nine letters of support from schools within the shire, keen to see the facilities established.
"The next step is to apply for a State funded grant, and this is where the survey comes in. By completing the survey, people are supporting the grant application.
"You don't have to play hockey, you just need to support the fact that if we plan our sporting facilities in the Shire, our sporting clubs - who have identified the need for a synthetic turf facility on Gloucester Park - will ensure that such a facility will be constructed.
"Then our families can learn and play together as a community in Margaret River and not have to travel to Busselton for training ever again!"
"Our community is helping us to prove that a training turf facility for the hockey club to train on and share with the soccer club, rugby club and local schools, is just what Margaret River needs.

"As well as hockey club fundraising, we have presented to the Margaret River Rotary Club, the Augusta & Districts Community Bendigo Bank, the Lions Club of Cowaramup, the Lions Club of Leeuwin-Augusta and the Lions Club of Margaret River who have been extremely generous with their support. Together we have raised $100,00 and we have also been successful with a $200,000 Federal sporting grant.
Members of the community completing the survey by the August 11 deadline will go in the draw to win prizes including a 3 Month Gold Membership for the Margaret River Recreation Centre, a $100 Cowaramup Brewery voucher or a case of local wine.
