The first week of June saw water sport enthusiasts converge on the Margaret River Recreation Centre for the inaugural Underwater Hockey Beginners Course.
A group of 22 keen participants joined four coaches of local members of Margaret River Underwater Hockey Club to learn about the region's most underrated sport.
Led by experienced local club members, participants were involved in the six week course that aimed to facilitate an introduction that showcased the skills and game play of the sport .
Over the six nights, participants were taught the basic rules and motor skills of the game, whilst building on their theoretical knowledge in poolside workshops.
It was fantastic to witness the diversity and variation in ages and abilities that attended and a great opportunity to try something they have heard about from afar.
Underwater Hockey has always naturally attracted local poolside interest, through it's ability to facilitate watermanship in a region renowned for its surfing and diving culture.
The course was designed to stoke interest and spread awareness about the mental and physical benefits of the sport.
The turnout delighted organisers, that wanted cater for both adults and children, illustrating the addictive nature of the sport they love.
