New Augusta Margaret River Shire chief executive officer Stephanie Addison-Brown was introduced to the workings of the Margaret River Community Centre (MRCC) during a site visit last week.
MRCC Committee, staff and tenants mingled with Ms Addison-Brown, sharing the history of the Community Centre and the wide array of activities that happen there today.
"In 1990 the community rallied to save the old hospital when the original district service was relocated to the current site on Farrelly Road," said Sally Hays, Chair of MRCC.
"The Community Centre moved across from the original premises on Station Road.
"Next year we celebrate 30 years of restoring and sharing The Old Hospital Heritage Precinct as a place that welcomes all members of our community."
Members and staff from WA Country Health, SW Counselling, Just Home, Nature Conservation, Arts Margaret River, Life Without Barriers and Community Home Care enjoyed the chance to chat with Ms Addison-Brown, Shire President Pam Townsend and Councillor Pauline McLeod over a pink-themed morning tea.
A quick hello to the volunteers cooking in the Soup Kitchen was followed by a tour of the Community Centre grounds and the Community Centre for Children with Ms Hays and Centre Manager Lydell Huntly.
Standing on the verandas under the pink Boomerang bunting sewn and hung by volunteers for Pink Up Our Region breast cancer week, Ms Hays said she was very happy to welcome Ms Addison-Brown to Margaret River.
"We are really pleased with Steph's interest in all the activities happening at a community level here and we enjoyed the opportunity to introduce her to the people behind our town's social services," Ms Hays said.
