Little Athletics Western Australia has announced that the 2020 State Country Championships will be hosted between 17 - 19 January 2020 at Gloucester Park, Margaret River, at the home of the Margaret River Little Athletics Club.
The event will feature approximately 350 junior athlete participants aged between 5 and 16 all vying for top honours, and an opportunity to achieve their own personal best results.
The event will showcase the Shire of Augusta Margaret River to some of the state's best regional athletes and draw visitors from across the state from as far as Broome, Geraldton, Goldfields and Exmouth.
The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has this year partnered with Margaret River Little Athletics Club and Little Athletics WA to help host the event and is proud to support the event in Margaret River and the South West Region.
The Little Athletics Western Australia Chief Executive Officer, Vince Del Prete said, "It is a fantastic opportunity for athletes across the state to experience competing at a state level competition.
"The Shire of Augusta Margaret River offers not only the fantastic athletics facilities but also the holiday experience with the attractions and family things to do in the region.
"Our athletes and families will no doubt enjoy more than just the competition."
Chair of Margaret River Little Athletics Club, Janet Smith said the group was looking forward to the event generating even more interest in the sport.
"We are proud to host the event in Margaret River and highlight the outstanding facilities the region has to offer, and the talent we have in both athletes and volunteers," Ms Smith said.
"We hope this event will inspire more children to participate in Little Athletics and enjoy the many benefits the sport has to offer whilst having fun doing it."
Shire President Pam Townshend said being selected for the championships was a positive for the region, with athletes and their families coming to town.
"It great to host an event that encourages youth participation in sports, and provides opportunity for health, fitness, recreation and social engagement," Cr Townshend said.
"We warmly welcome all visiting athletes, coaches and families and wish all participants the very best of luck."
