It was a big news day for Cowaramup Bulls Gold 13s team when they sealed their first win for the year with a nail-biting victory against the combined Hawks Navy/Augusta team at Cowaramup.
It has been a long year for the Bulls boys as numbers have been an issue for this team all year, and they have been on the wrong side of many a drubbing.
Their attitude has been excellent week in, week out, and it was great to see their never-say-die efforts rewarded.
The final score was 5.8 to 4.9. Macklin kicked two goals, Brodie kicked two and Tahn Payne kicked a left foot goal. Darian Cheffers coach awards went to Foy, Jake Miller and Macklin Flynn.
In other games on Saturday, Bulls Red 9s came up against Hawks Navy in Margaret River.
The kids played with so much heart and showed spectators just how far they have come this season by showing off their skills, moving the ball well and keeping the pressure on. Coaches awards went to Finn, Matilda and Jordan.
After a slow start to their match (and great pressure and play from Hawks Navy/Augusta), the 11s Gold Bulls gathered momentum and played out a strong last three-quarters to finish the game on top.
Coach Mark Jolliffe congratulated the 11s kids on rebounding from the slow start to find their groove, and on concentrating on improving their skills as the match went on. Coaches awards went to Kian Monaghan-Hall, Jack Zan and Avion Packer.
Cowaramup Junior Football Club celebrated its end of season wind-up one week early with a great family day at Duggan Pavillion on Sunday afternoon.
As well as presentations and trophies to all our grades of Auskick, 9s, 11s and 13s, the day is an opportunity to thank coaches, managers and umpires, as well as reveal best and fairest players for the 13s.
This year, Tahn Payne was named best and fairest player for the Bulls, closely followed by the ever-improving James Meldrum.
It was a particularly sweet day for Bulls, coach Darian Cheffers, and all parents as the team had celebrated its first win for the season the day before.
