A sub-Antarctic fur seal was rescued from under a car on Campion Way in Quindalup on Friday evening.
The young pup was quite distressed by the time wildlife carers arrived, and they had to call Dunsborough Police for backup.
Dunsborough and Busselton Wildlife Care Inc carer Sasha Boundy said she received a call about 7pm from a lady who had stopped on the road because she thought she had seen a pile of blankets.
What the lady had thought were blankets ran under her car, and the blankets in question turned out to be a seal.
"I thought it was a prank call because when I asked where the lady was, she was quite far from the beach, I thought it was like a Friday the 13th type joke," she said.
"When I got there I realised there was indeed an angry, growling seal which was trying to attack us from under the lady's car.
"There were lots of children around, I had to get rid of all the children and members of the public for their own safety.
"I needed some backup to help me, I tried the rangers and Parks and Wildlife, no one answered so I called the police."
For the next 30 minutes, Ms Boundy and Dunsborough Police tried to get the seal into a pet carrier and back to the ocean, but the animal could not get over the lid.
"It was too angry and too big to get close enough to pick up and carry, seals have really sharp teeth," she said.
"We came up with the ingenious idea of scooting it into a wheelie bin and wheeling it back to the ocean.
"The seal swam off and it looked quite happy, it had seemed really confused by the whole situation, meeting lots of people and being in the middle of the road.
"There were lots of car headlights on the seal, I do not think it will make that mistake again."
