With the start of the Margaret River Main Street redevelopment project expected to get underway in February 2020, the Shire of Augusta Margaret River will compile a directory of local trades which will be made available to major tenderers when the project tender is advertised.
Local tradespeople and businesses have until 5pm tomorrow, Wednesday October 16 to register for the directory.
The project includes the following works: demolition and earthworks, drainage, lighting and electrical works, new pedestrian paving and kerbing, traffic management, landscaping and street furniture.
Local suppliers who are interested in being added to the directory are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest by close of deadline.
AMR Shire chief executive Stephanie Addison-Brown said the decision to delay the start of the project until February would better support main street traders over summer.
"This has brought the added benefit of extending the timeframe for local tradespeople to register their interest to work on the project," Ms Addison-Brown said.
"Expressions of Interest forms have been advertised and are now due to be returned to the Shire by COB Wednesday October 16.
"This register will then be provided to the primary project contractor once appointed, who will have objectives around using local trades.
"This is in line with the Shire's 'buy local' policy which recognises the additional economic value of keeping dollars circulating within our own region."
Works manager Peter Brown said the Shire's primary objective was to minimise the impact of the works on the business community.
"We'll be working with the appointed contractor to ensure that we deploy the best and most efficient construction practices and logistics," Mr Brown said.
"We are on track to meet the necessary milestones that will see work commence on site in early February 2020."
