WA Polocrosse is over for another season and what a year it was for the Margaret River Club.
2019 without a doubt has been the most successful for the Club since the early 80s with multiple appearances in Finals across a range of grades, our Open Mixed Team becoming State Champions and more than doubling our membership numbers.
Our new recruits gave the local Club a chance to consistently field an A Grade along with the C and D Grade Teams, this stability gave our players and horses plenty of opportunity for development and improvement which is very encouraging for the seasons to come.
Our Club culture is strongly focused on fielding competitive Teams while ensuring enjoyment, inclusiveness and maintaining a fun, friendly vibe.
We have many family members playing alongside each other including brothers and sisters, fathers, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives making Polocrosse a very unique sport.
The Club has some very impressive achievements to celebrate from 2019 with the highlight certainly being Margaret River taking out the premier grade at the State Championships. Something that we have not won since the 90s!
Our A Grade Team went from strength to strength every weekend playing in all the feature night games that were put on during the year and made the final at the inaugural Murray Polocrosse Carnival.
One of the best results is that we were able to rotate some up and coming players through this team giving them exposure and experience at the next level.
The C/D Grade Team made several appearances in finals all over the state, they were close all season then got the win at Serpentine. A massive feat for this newly formed Team and the best result was how much fun they all had every weekend.
The on field performance of our Men's, Women's, Intermediate and Junior players was recognised with their selection into the Southern Zone Teams played at Perth and Kojonup and also in the form of multiple individual awards at both Club and Zone level.
There are far too many achievements to list everything our wonderful members have accomplished this year but most recently several of our Margaret River players were nominated for the Southern Zone Awards and we were very pleased to have Tyla McGuire receive Runner Up Best Intermediate Player and Jodi Dunlop win the Best Women's Player with her locally bred Australia Stock Horse Jestersflat Mem Fox winning the Champion Horse of the Year. Please see our Facebook page for a full recap of each carnival this season!
If you are looking to join a seriously fun, family orientated and action packed horse sport Polocrosse is the go! We have plenty of opportunity for new comers and beginners with the Summer/Autumn season beginning in February 2020.
Please contact the Club via the Facebook page if you would like to know more about getting involved in our truly Australian made and played sport.
