The City of Busselton is calling for registrations of interest from established and registered transport operators to provide transport services at the Busselton Margaret River Airport.

These services will start operating from March 25, 2020 when the first passenger air service commences between Busselton and Melbourne.

Jetstar will operate this service three times a week and with 186 seats on each flight, a variety of transport options for arriving and departing passengers is a critical service requirement.

City of Busselton chief executive officer Mike Archer said they were keen to see an integrated transport service established at the airport which will meet the needs of group or tour bookings, multiple and single passengers as well as the disabled.

"Essential to this is the provision of reliable transport services such as registered taxis, charter vehicles, ride share providers, chauffeured vehicles, coaches and shuttles," he said.

"These transport options will complement the supply of short to medium-term parking for private vehicles at the airport along with licensed hire car providers."

To ensure visitors and residents are provided with a professional transport service, providers will need to provide proof of Passenger Transport Vehicle authorisation and will require a valid City of Busselton permit to operate from the airport.

Mr Archer said they wanted to see service options that linked the airport with key accommodation providers and town centres throughout the district and the wider South West region.

"We also want to ensure that services are accessible, affordable and comfortable," he said.

"We are fortunate to have some excellent local transport providers already operating in Busselton and Dunsborough including long-established taxi and bus services that are well known and well respected by the community.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to expand our local transport industry and I encourage local providers who meet the criteria to express their interest."

Submissions for the Registration of Interest for Busselton Margaret River Airport Transport Operators closes on January 3, 2020.
