In a quiet corner of Margaret River, a quirky game of backyard golf has grown into a 25 year tradition amongst mates.
Every Australia Day long weekend, locals Bruno and Gudy Hangartner open their doors - and their backyard - to group of friends and casual golfers, who take part in a day of golf and camaraderie.
"We started it as a bit of a celebration for my birthday, which falls on the same weekend," explained Mr Hangartner ahead of the milestone 25th game.
"What's interesting about this game is there is only one hole - with nine tees around the property. Everyone shoots for the same hole from those tees, and some of them are trickier than others."
Golf balls are emblazoned with names and nicknames, to help players keep track of their places as they meander around the bush and garden spaces.
On Saturday the players and officials, including visitors from Perth who make the trek down to take part in the game, donned their finest Australian-themed costumes before tee off.
Climbing over creeks and through the bush to reach the tee, Mr Hangartner said the game was about spending time and having a laugh with friends.
"Of course there are some players who are better than others but that's why this game is so much fun, because we have a few beers... and then sometimes some more beers, and the skills might go down a little bit.
"Some of the tees are amongst fruit trees, there is one over the back of a house where you have to actually hit the ball over the roof to reach the green, so it gets quite funny especially towards the end of the game."
Officials and watchdogs are placed at intervals around the course, armed with walkie-talkies and ready to halt play for any passing cars or new arrivals to the property.
The course's one and only hole, marked with an Australian flag pole, sits conveniently in front of Bruno and Gudy's verandah, ideally placed for a drink after each successful sinking.
A safety barrier has been erected to protect the house and spectators on the verandah from the first few tees, where errant balls have the potential to cause damage.
"It has become quite popular, we only have twelve player spots and they are always grabbed quickly. I think it's a really good chance to spend some quality time with friends, we're outside and having a laugh, you know, it's what life is all about!"
