Wilyabrup winery Fermoy Estate, which held the title of the World's Greatest Cabernet, is celebrating 35 years of wine making.
The vineyard was first established in 1985 by the Anderson family who named the winery after a town in County Cork, Ireland where their ancestors hailed from.
Throughout its 35 year history the winery has received a number of accolades and their 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon was served at the official wedding reception of Princess Mary and Prince Frederik of Denmark, christening it the "wine fit for a princess."
Fermoy Estate cellar door manager Jacqui Holmes said now they were 35 years old they well and truly fitted into the mature aged winery status by Margaret River standards.
"Our Cabernets have always been our highest rated and the wine we have won the most accolades and awards for over the years," she said.
"We are getting some really good age on our Cabernet vines now which are producing some fantastic fruit.
"Most recently we received a gold medal at the Concours International Des Cabernets which is the same competition that we won the World's Greatest Award a little while back."
The winery are on a high in their 35th year after winning gold for the third time at the prestigious French International Competition of Cabernets, with its 2016 Fermoy Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
In April 2015, Fermoy Estate made history when their 2013 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon became the first Australian wine to take home the International Competition of Cabernets trophy.
The current owners are brothers Aaron and John Young who have owned the winery since 2010.
Ms Holmes said the winery had a rich history and was still family-owned.
Winemaker Jeremy Hodgson has been with them since 2015 when he over from senior winemaker Liz Dawson.
"Jeremy has been making some great wines and winning great awards, we have a great team," Ms Holmes said.
"Our vineyard manager Andy has been with the winery since he left school 20 years ago, he really knows the vines.
"He cares for them beautifully so the quality we get from them year after year keeps improving."
Ms Holmes said they had what they called 'the world's greatest Cabernet block' which is where their oldest Cabernet vines are located.
"If the yield is big enough we get all our Reserve Cabernet fruit from there," she said.
"It is where all our best Cabernet are on the estate and was named the World's Greatest Cabernet Block many years ago prior to us actually winning the World's Greatest Cabernet Award.
"It is just getting some beautiful age on it now and it was producing outstanding fruit way back.
"The quality coming off it has always impressed our winemakers and vineyard staff which is how it got its name, so winning the award was a pretty big deal."
