Thirty years ago last month a lease was signed with the South West Development Authority on behalf of the State Government, to keep the old hospital for community use.

This was the culmination of a determined display of community spirit.

"Thirty years on, the Margaret River Community Centre at the Old Hospital Heritage Precinct continues to provide an inclusive and multi-purpose space for the Margaret River community," said Sally Hays, Chairperson.

"It is home to almost forty permanent tenants and regular community group hirers whose purposes are many and varied."

"It is now hard to imagine the community without the access to these affordable spaces for groups and organisations to gather.

"The Margaret River Community Centre is truly a place for the whole community," added Lyn Moorfoot, Administration Officer, who has worked at the Centre for 25 years.

On October 23, the Community Centre will host a Spring Open day to celebrate those 30 years of community involvement.

Current activities and services available will be showcased.

"Interviews are underway with local people who have worked at and used the Centre as tenants or community members, over the last thirty years," said Jenny Bunbury, Committee Member.

"We are capturing the memories and stories of the history and evolution of the Community Centre to create an audio-visual presentation on the day and as a permanent record of this achievement."
