Molly Davey to make her Greater Northern League hockey debut at just 11 years of age

At just 11 years of age, Molly Davey will make her debut for the Dragons's Greater Northern League team in Saturday's trip to Launceston to take on Queechy.

The Miandetta Primary School pupil is the youngest-ever member of the club's division one team, but King has full faith that she will be up to the task.

"At the end of the day Molly is very young, but she has represented her state and done quite well, so I do believe she is up to the task this weekend, albeit she is not going to play a full game," King said.

"I think it is good to give the young players a bit of a taster, especially in this year where we are trying to look at the all the positives around having a shortened season where we can develop the players who are going to be the future of the GNL team.

"It's an exciting day for the club and a great opportunity for her."

Davey is no stranger to playing against bigger and stronger opposition, having played in West Devonport's junior teams which regularly feature boys and girls playing together.

King said she plans to play Davey in attack to utilise her skills.

"Molly usually plays inside forward or in a forward position and that's where she'll play on Saturday," King said.

"Her running and fitness will be a bonus for us and she is pretty good in front of goal."

Davey said she was excited, but surprised with the call-up, which came on Friday morning when her mum, Narelle, informed her.

"I was thinking about it all day at school and I probably won't sleep much on Friday night," she admitted.

"But I'm looking forward to playing with all the experienced players on our team, especially Sam Lawrence who has played for Tasmania.

"It would be awesome to score a goal for the team, and I feel like I'm in good form, but Saturday is going to be a step up from what I am used to."
