Under starry skies on Friday night the Hawk Blues took on the Reds in a classic hard fought contest.
The ball bounced from end to end with Jase marshalling the troops down back making it extremely difficult for the Red team to score.
Good centre clearance work from Olly and Keiser gave opportunities forward and the Blue team snuck away to a couple of goal lead before West kicked a magnificent goal from near on the boundary.
The game tightened further and some desperate acts from Leroy down back to save a certain goal and good defence from both teams took the game deep into the final quarter before a clever snap from Charlie sealed the victory for the blue team.
The game was played in great spirit and both teams will be looking forward to this week's round robin carnival.
A last minute soccered point by Rhonan Cheffers clinched a draw against Hawks Navy and gave Cowaramup Bulls 13s their first points of the season on Saturday.
Describing it as their best effort so far in terms of attack on the ball and run, coach Mark Jolliffe was full of praise after the game for the boys, saying that they held their structure in the wind and showed growing confidence in their own skills and skills of their teammates.
Bulls were in front at half time, but two third quarter goals from the boot of Navy's Holly Smith (another of our association female players doing great things with their football) gave the Navy team the lead heading into the last.
With the wind, Bulls peppered the goal at the school-end of the ground.
Tom Golding had been excellent all day, along with Jake Miller and James Meldrum and a new player for Bulls (a very welcome one too, Quinn Giroud).
It was Tom who got the team going with a great mark and goal early in the last quarter.
It was neck and neck after that.
The points came thick and fast but not the goals, and Rhonan gets the chocolates for hero of the day with that point in the end.
Final score 4.5 to 4.5 draw.
Best players for Bulls were Jake Miller, Quinn Giroud, James Meldrum and Kian Monaghan-Hall.
In earlier games, Bulls Gold met Hawks Navy in the 11s, battling hard against the Navy team which had the better of the game in the end.
Steve Kirby's coach's awards went to Kai Luttrell who was everywhere with his normal tackling grit and determination, Matilda Olsen and Joel Gallop.
In the 9s, Bulls showed great ball skills and courage against a much taller Navy team and the game was very low scoring as defence from both sides was tough!
Hawks Blue ventured to Augusta for their game in Under 11's football. Although windy, the players adjusted and shared the ball well - stringing together numerous scoring opportunities.
Award certificates for Hawks Blue went to Oliver Stuart and Riley Dodd with the Millers Icecream Awards going to Rocco Brown and Jack Miller.
