With National Wattle Day just around the corner, Margaret River Independent School (MRIS) students have been busy creating wattle poems ahead of their school celebration.
Wattle Day celebrates Australia's floral emblem and the Australian spirit, and coincides with the arrival of spring.
The MRIS class went out on the school's Nyindamurra Nature Trail to have a sensory experience with wattle.
Teacher Skye Robertson said the students smelled and touched wattle, and examined varying colours of the plant before creating artistic works to go with their poems.
The school will celebrate Wattle Day on Friday, September 4 by dressing in yellow and donating a gold coin towards the protection of threatened native species.
