Peppermint Grove Beach was closed last week by the Department of Fisheries after a whale carcass was sighted about one kilometre offshore.
Busselton resident Frank Eckler captured images of a 4.5 metre white shark chomping on a 9.5 metre whale carcass on October 9, 2020.
The Department of Fisheries officers were able to tag and release a white shark which was in the area of the carcass..
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development said it was possible the decomposing carcass would act as an attractant that could lead to sharks coming close in to shore.
While it's not uncommon for sharks to be present off the coast people were asked to exercise caution.
