Girls and women's cricket in the Busselton-Margaret River area has received a boost in the past week with a number of events to increase opportunities for female players.
WA Country women's coach Angele Gray ran a successful training workshop for girls and women in Dunsborough, which saw a great turnout of female participants.
Busselton resident and ex-state cricketer Margi Holland was on hand to assist with training and skill development.
WACA regional manager Rachel Norman coordinated the events to provide opportunities for girls and women to experience cricket and share their ideas on progressing women's cricket in the Busselton region.
A "women in cricket" forum in Busselton was also well attended by local community members, coming from as far as Nannup, as well as WACA staff. Caitlin Spencer, the WACA's female participation specialist, was present to share her expertise and ideas for the growth of women's cricket in the South West.
Busselton-Margaret River Cricket Association president Pieter Bresser said the BMRCA and its junior body, the Busselton-Margaret River Junior Cricket Association, actively encouraged girls and ladies to engage with all aspects of cricket.
The number of girls playing cricket locally is increasing and a number of clubs are offering all-girls cricket teams in the junior competition. Any females who are interested in playing or learning more are asked to contact Libby Milligan on 0417 174 288.
