A man who "pointed a shotgun at police officers" has been arrested following an alleged crime spree over the past week.
Mandurah Detectives charged the 31-year-old with 12 offences after he was arrested on the back of a heated chase through Kirup in the state's South West overnight, which ended with police wrestling a firearm out of the man's hands.
It is alleged police first sighted the man last Friday, November 20, when he evaded them while driving a Subaru Forrester through the Meadow Springs, San Remo and Mandurah areas.
It is further alleged during this incident he deliberately tried to hit a police officer with his vehicle.
Six days later on Thursday, November 26, the man allegedly forced his way into a home in Dixvale where he stole a shotgun, a rifle, jewellery and other personal items.
That same day at about 6.30pm the man was sighted by police driving the Subaru on South Western Highway in Kirup. It is alleged the man failed to stop for police and drove off.
He eventually abandoned the vehicle after driving over a tyre deflation device on Cundinup-Kirup Road in Kirup, and fled on foot into the nearby bush carrying the shotgun.
It will be further alleged the man pointed the shotgun at several officers on multiple occasions as he attempted to escape police who were pursuing him on foot.
The firearm was wrestled from the hands of the man by a police officer and the weapon discharged.
No one was injured.
Police conducted a search of the Subaru Forrester where they located the stolen rifle under the rear passenger seat and an amount of jewellery.
The man has been charged with the following counts:
- 3 x endanger life, health or safety of a person
- 2 x fail to comply with a direction to stop (circumstances of aggravation)
- 2 x reckless driving to escape pursuit by police
- 2 x possess unlicensed firearm
- 1 x home burglary and commit
- 1 x stealing
- 1 x being armed in a way that may cause fear
He will appear in Bunbury Magistrates Court on Friday, November 27.
