Tony Kendall to lead media company ACM's new-look executive team

ACM's chief revenue officer Tony Kendall has been confirmed as the new managing director of the country's largest privately owned media company.

Mr Kendall will assume the role from December 18, when Allen Williams leaves after 30 years with the business, the past three years as CEO.

ACM's chief financial officer Renee Duffy's role has been expanded to include the functions of chief operating officer. Ms Duffy will oversee human resources, workplace health and safety, printing and logistics in addition to her finance responsibilities.

She and Mr Kendall will report directly to ACM executive chairman Antony Catalano, who says the changes to the business leadership will set the company up for future growth.

"I am delighted to announce the promotion of both Tony and Renee to these critical roles as we continue the evolution of the ACM business," Mr Catalano said.

"Tony has had a successful career in senior leadership roles in a diverse range of media organisations and in his time at ACM has transformed our commercial offering with a focus on growing our customer's business. Renee's promotion recognises the integral role she has played in transitioning ACM from Nine/Fairfax ownership into the leading independent media company we are today."

With Mr Kendall's move to managing director, Sharon Fitter, currently Enterprise sales director, is being promoted to chief revenue officer.

Mr Catalano said Ms Fitter had built a "market-leading Enterprise sales team that has helped the business transition out of COVID with momentum".

Mr Kendall, who joined ACM in August last year, said he had enjoyed working with the business, and admired Mr Catalano's "growth mindset" which was "rare in today's media landscape".

Ms Duffy has worked with ACM (previously Fairfax and Rural Press) for 17 years.

"I've seen many things change, but I've never been more excited to be with this company and I embrace the opportunity these new responsibilities present. Tony and I have worked closely over the last 18 months and achieved many things, but we know what's on the horizon and we can't wait to get into 2021 leading this company together," she said.

Ms Fitter said she was looking forward to expanding her responsibilities to all parts of the business including partnerships and national sales.

"To be given the opportunity to be chief revenue officer at ACM is a real honour," she said. "We have a team that is in my view the best in market and I'm looking forward to bringing my many years of sales experience to ACM more broadly."

Earlier, Mr Catalano paid tribute to Mr Williams and the time he had spent with the company.

"Allen's experience across the business and his extensive industry knowledge has been a critical factor in helping steer us through the past year, which has presented some of the most challenging financial conditions ever faced by the Australian media sector," Mr Catalano said.
