The Margaret River Uniting Church will once again host their annual Deep Listening Festival this week, inviting people from all walks of life to take time out of their schedule to engage, connect and listen.
The festival has for two years offered a diverse range of speakers, workshop presenters, musicians and artists, sharing stories to inspire and enrich people's understanding of themselves and the community around them.
Festival spokesperson Mary Elton said this year's theme was 'Growing Strong Together'.
"COVID-19 has meant that plans have had to change, and we are pleased to announce a small event on Saturday January 16," she said.
"This will showcase the work of four local artists, Maureen Munro, Silvia Busetto, Lee-anne Townrow and Elaine Clocherty as they interpret the theme."
Clocherty will invite participants to contribute to her collaborative piece during the evening.
Mrs Elton said this year's special guest speaker would be Akram Azimi, who fled war-torn Afghanistan and received a visa to Australia in 1999.
"Akram overcame is disadvantaged background and lack of English to become his school's top academic student before studying law at university.
"He was named 2013 Young Australian of the year for his community service and mentoring work with indigenous youth.
"Akram's mother, Nadia, always his inspiration, will accompany him to the Deep Listening Festival. We look forward to meeting Akram and being inspired by his story."
The Deep Listening Festival is on Saturday January 16 from 7.00pm - 10.00pm.
Wine and nibbles will be served on entry with music by local group Red Dress. Tickets are $20 online at www.trybooking.com/BMVQH or $20 at the door if not sold out.
