Since its inception over two years ago, the local not-for-profit volunteer group Death and Dying Matters (DDM) Augusta Margaret River has amassed a collection of information on topics related to end of life.
The group is now focused on sharing that knowledge, and will present a series of talks and workshops related to preparing well for death and navigating end of life.
In early December 2020 DDM held a well-attended talk at the Margaret River Library called "Lively Conversations about Death and Dying."
On 6 February at 3:00pm they will present "Caring and Sharing" at the Margaret River Community Centre Church Gallery. This event will present two talks. The first, "Wholistic End of Life Care" will be made by Claire O'Berry, a Certified End of Life Doula.
The second talk will be a workshop presented by Kym Walker, Civil Funeral Celebrant, titled "The Last Word - Some People Just Have to Have It!: Eulogy Writing for Beginners.
There are plans for future talks and workshops throughout the year, including "Creating your Advanced Care Directive."
Mary Flynn and Kym Walker will present a course, "Dying to Know in Margaret River" for U3A in April and May.
DDM Events Coordinator Paul Barlow said, "One of our main goals is to normalise the topic of death in the community, what better way than through education.
"We are sure these talks will be informative and even fun."
