After the success of their latest creative project launch, Margaret River-based band Brightsider will release their third single, 'Level' this week.
Dubbed "instantly memorable" by music critics, the first two singles from the four piece, 'The Best Things In Life Come Easy, Right?' and 'Sit Down' have been warmly received by fans clocking up more than 1,500 monthly listeners.
Frontman Dan White told the Mail the project came together after he found himself with a lot of extra time to write and produce music.
"The first dozen songs fit very definitely into a specific sound, and it felt right to pursue something fresh in what was a big year of change for many of us.
"I've always really enjoyed funk, soul and R&B, working elements of all three into my writing, though since my partner Emjay Angeni and I started Moon & Honey I've felt like that has served as an outlet for my folky songs, leaving me freer to explore those other genres and sounds more specifically."
I'm excited to be exploring this new and fun direction in my music.
- Dan White
With a plan to release a new track on the first Friday of each month for 2021, and a raft of other projects under his care including the WA Guitar Festival, White said he worked hard to maintain a level of creative productivity.
"I find myself most creative in the evenings so often spend this time writing, creating and playing music.
"Sometimes inspiration hits, and when it does it's great to be able to press pause and follow that, though I've found over the years that waiting for inspiration to strike can leave you waiting a long time so practising structured creativity is a really good thing."
The guitarist and singer-songwriter said he was enjoying playing with the Brightsider lineup after spending so much time working with a large circle of collaborators.
"[In Brightsider] we've got Chris on keys and trumpet, Ziggy on drums and backing vocals and Wayan on bass and backing vocals," he said. "I'm still a big fan of collaboration and will continue to work with other musicians on co-writes and features as I see it as only a positive thing for the creative process.
"I'm really excited to be exploring this new and fun direction in my music - the band is sounding epic and we've got a heap of brand new tunes I can't wait to share with everyone in Margs this weekend!"
Brightsider is live from 7pm at The River this Saturday April 3 supported by Banjo Lucia, Nathan Parsons, Grace Sanders and DJ Mandy B.
