Do you have some time to spare and want to help Margaret River people get ahead of potential financial issues?
Tax Help volunteers are trained by the Australian Tax Office and would be required for a few hours per week from July to October.
For over 10 years Tax Help has been operating to help people who earn less than $60,000 per year to complete straight forward tax returns, lodge an amendments claim or create a myGov account using myTax.
It can be confusing trying to navigate the online tax forms and portals if you haven't completed a tax return for a while or don't have a computer to use to complete them.
Not attending to yearly tax requirements can result in fines and prevent people from getting some government benefits and the tax returns they may be owed.
"If an appropriate community volunteer steps forward we can have this service at the Margaret River Community Centre as well as Busselton," said Margaret River Community Centre chairperson Sally Hays.
"It will alleviate travel barriers for people," she said.
"Previous volunteers have said that it gives them a sense of achievement and an opportunity to learn more about the tax system."
No special experience is needed to be a Tax Help volunteer.
All training is provided and an ATO community liaison officer will oversee and guide you through the training, then support you once you begin delivering Tax Help in your community.
Margaret River Community Centre will support with booking arrangements and meeting space.
