The Informer: Restrictions ramp up in Sydney due to coronavirus

Mother's Day celebrations will be very different for many after household gatherings were restricted and face masks were made compulsory, with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian also banning dancing and singing.

The new rules will be enforceable from 5pm on Thursday until 12.01am on Monday.

"These measures are proportionate to the risk and will help reduce further cases of community transmission," Ms Berejiklian said.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration's weekly update, released today, revealed another five people have developed rare thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome, likely to be linked to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The cases include two Victorians, a Tasmanian, a Queenslander and a Western Australian.

TGA head John Skerritt said he wanted to remind people that for every thousand doses of either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine administered there were between six and seven adverse event reports.

"And overwhelmingly these reports are of the sorts of things that are associated with any vaccination generally - fever, joint pain, muscle, muscle soreness, tiredness, maybe nausea and vomiting," he said.

Australia has administered 2,473,529 COVID vaccine doses so far and there have been 11 cases of blood clotting since the start of the AstraZeneca rollout.

Repatriation flights from India are on track to resume once the temporary travel ban ends on May 15, Prime Minister Scott Morrison says.

The PM was adamant the pause had worked to ease pressure on the Howard Springs quarantine centre in the Nothern Territory.

"The early evidence indicates that the temporary pause to the 15th of May is on track," Mr Morrison said.

A legal challenge over the travel ban has been launched in the Federal Court.
