In their penultimate round of the season, Margaret River Junior Gropers travelled to South Bunbury.
Due to illness and holidays, the team was down on players but this wasn't enough to dampen the spirits of the ever-improving squad.
Perhaps it has been their spiritual-like offerings of week-in and week-out open, expansive, exciting rugby that pleased the Rugby Gods or some other form of divine intervention but yet again they granted safe travels and fair weather.
Typically running on 'Margies Time' the only warm up the players had was running to the pitch from their cars.
The stretches consisted of pulling on the socks and boots and pre-game team talk mostly centred around which happy meal they were going to order for lunch.
The other two teams were like Drago with Margies being about as prepared as Rocky at the start of the fourth Rocky film.
With no subs to call upon, the 7 players dug in deep for the full game.
Captain for the day, Riqi 'The Power' Pascoe was yet again a force in both attack and defence.
Ever consistent Taane Kaweroa scythed down the biggest of the opposition's ball carriers and hit some great lines to set up numerous tries. All players have their own attributes, but if you asked any rugby coach in the world what they most desired from a player, they would all say they want players who are reliable, physical and who quietly get the work done.
Barney Chanin is the epitome of this. If there was ruck, he would be in the middle of it.
Getting the hard work done!
If Barney is the textbook backrower, Oscar Chanin is the perfect winger. Pace is one thing that can't be coached and Oscar has this in abundance.
His inside-outside move down the line was a coach's dream.
Koby Schweir- aka Cut throat Koby was lethal this week.
The baby faced assassin was absolutely on his game, tackling, running, passing. This kid has the full package.
If Michael Gobregts had a player cam to track his km's covered, the would would need a lie down after the shift he put in.
If there was a tackle, he was there to make it. If a player bust a hole, Michael was on their shoulder to take a pass. As good as the other six players were, there was just one name on everybody's lips after the game.
KOBBY SESHIE!
This kid is one to watch. There's quick.
Then there's super quick.
Then there's lightning quick.
Then there's Kobby quick. His effortless stride is deceiving.
It even looked like he was only at half speed and still burnt every other player. His boots must still be warm! Natural talent! While we acknowledge our try scorers, rugby is a team sport.
Scoring tries is the culmination of every individual's effort.
Riqi Pascoe may not have scored this week but he saved almost as many tries as WA's vaccinated population. He also had a hand in nearly every time the Gropers scored. The
Gropers scored 15 tries and conceded just 3. Try scorers were Kobby Seshie (4), Oscar Chanin (4),
Michael Gobregts (3), Taane Kaweroa (2), Barney Chanin and Koby Schwier.
