The best of Augusta on display at October Spring Show

Event spokesperson Wendy Sheargold said the Spring Show was a chance for people to celebrate the strength of community within the South West town.

"Apart from the very impressive horticultural side of the Show there are other sections too - mouthwatering cakes, jams and preserves, some very splendid quilts, fine needlework and home made jewellery," she said.

"The Spinners and Weavers always have some eye-catching work and the town's photographers come up with a great display, and the woodwork and metalwork sections are just so inventive."

Mrs Sheargold said there were still chances for people to enter their produce, crafts and creative pursuits.

Schedules with entry forms are available from the Augusta Newsagency and entries close Wednesday October 20.

"We are hoping local apiarists will enter pots of their lovely honey, and we have created a special Kiddies Corner to encourage the younger members of our community to take part.

"Thanks to the generosity of the Leeuwin Lions we shall present a unified front this year in our lovely new green t-shirts! And we'll have a stall selling home made jams and preserves, and lots of plant cuttings."

Augusta and Karridale Primary Schools will return with their fabulous displays, which Mrs Sheargold said were a real tribute to the teaching staff at the schools.

"The kitchen works over the whole weekend keeping everyone supplied with home made goodies - so come along for a feast in all senses of the word."

To round off the weekend, the Show concludes with a fun Pet Show.

George Hoad, President of the Garden Clubs of Australia said, "It is a real community event and I'm so impressed by both the number and quality of the entries."

The Spring Show opens Saturday October 23 from 1pm until 5pm and again on Sunday October 24 from 9am until 3.30pm.

Entry is $5 per person (children free) and includes morning or afternoon tea.
