The Cowaramup District Club attracted a big crowd of art lovers and fans of the ocean on Saturday night for the unveiling of a showcase of works by local artists and creatives.
The event was hosted by Woven Cowaramup, a local volunteer run not for profit organisation fostering connection, creativity and wellness, and was supported by the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.
The free event showcased 79 artworks created by both novice and established artists of the community, with attendees taking in a wide array of photography, painting, printmaking, ceramics, jewellery, mosaics, basketry, collage, textiles and meditation works throughout the evening.
Music from talented local Emjay Angeni created the perfect ambience for the audience to soak up their surrounds, while attendees had the chance to weave their own strands of colour into a giant woven sea anemone sculpture during the event.
Woven chair Alice Boyd said the event centred on the Woven goals of supporting both connection and creativity to strengthen the community.
"The Woven committee are absolutely overwhelmed by the community response to the event," she said.
"From the overflowing expressions of interest from artists to the packed exhibition floor, we are thrilled by the support of our community.
"The success of the night reaffirms the importance of creating opportunities to celebrate both creativity and community. This will definitely be a yearly event on Woven's calendar!"
The night coincided with Woven's one year anniversary and gave the group - which now boasts almost 300 members - the opportunity to display a mini exhibition.
'A Year of Woven' showcased the diverse range of works stemming from the Woven workshops held in the last year.
"The success of this event and our membership drive has really energised the Woven committee, as we launch into our second year of operating," said Boyd.
"We are looking forward to offering a wealth of new workshops and opportunities for people to take time out for themselves and connect to others within the community.
"We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the exhibition from the artists, the helpers, the supporters, the raffle donors, the local businesses, the audience and especially the Shire of Margaret River for making this event possible."
The majority of 2D works remain on exhibit at the Cowaramup District Club for the next month.
