The WA way: David Templeman hits the high notes with ode to 2021

David Templeman - Ode to 2021

As we reach the end of another year, it's time for another well-timed delivery with a pop culture twist from Western Australian MP David Templeman.

The WA Minister for Heritage, Tourism, Culture and the Arts and Member for Mandurah took to the floor to present the latest of his annual odes, this year set to the iconic melody of Frank Sinatra's 'My Way'.

"My friends, well what a year; of ups and downs, of that I'm certain," Mr Templeman began.

As he ran through key incidents and issues impacting WA over the year, the Minister touched on Labor's landslide victory in the March state election, singing that "the map turned red, we won seats along every byway...".

Smatterings of laughter and applause from colleagues and the public gallery punctuated much of Mr Templeman's performance, which covered topics including COVID-19 restrictions, the AFL Grand Final, and a few cheeky digs at the Federal government.

David Templeman's Greatest Hits:

Sliding into falsetto as the classic song reached its peak, Mr Templeman reflected on the State's successes, rhyming 'Freo' with 'my name is Cleo' in reference to the 4 year old girl rescued by WA Police on November 3.

He saved his final message for the unvaccinated Western Australians, staring down the barrel of the camera with the plea: "...and to those, who've procrastinated - do your family and State a turn, and get vaccinated."

Mr Templeman was part of another viral video earlier this month, appearing in a promotional video alongside WA Premier Mark McGowan.

The pair's slapstick comedy and unscripted giggles proved a hit with online audiences, attracting nearly 350,000 views on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok since November 13.
