A man is still missing following a fire that destroyed two homes and damaged two others in Collie overnight.
Emergency services were called to Wittenoom Street about 3.30am Tuesday morning following reports a house was alight and the blaze had spread to a neighbouring residence.
Occupants of one house were able to flee the building but a man who was believed to be in another remains unaccounted for.
Fire and Rescue and local bushfire brigade crews fought the flames while a power company worker was hoisted onto a power line across the road to secure it.
Members of the arson squad have travelled to Collie today to investigate the fire.
The missing man is understood to be aged in his 60s.
Collie Senior Sergeant Mike Dean said as devastating as the blaze was, it could have been worse.
"Thankfully there was no wind," he said.
Houses on either side of the two that were burnt to the ground suffered smoke damage.
Neighbours gathered in the street to watch the blaze, including anxious ones whose adjoining properties were threatened by the flames.
One Wittenoom Street resident told the Collie Mail he was asleep on his verandah and woke to see smoke and flames.
"I rang triple-0 but they had already received calls," he said.
