I love the natural environment, the friendly people, the variety of activities and the community vibe.
This motivated volunteering for two years as a board member of the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association and chairing their Finance Committee.
I currently volunteer as a board member of Arts Margaret River. I try to live a sustainable lifestyle.
I’m running in this year’s election…
My motivation for standing is my passion for this area.
Shire council is the closest form of government to the local community and has a major role to play in the every day lives of people.
I listen to people in the community and know they want an affordable lifestyle, a vibrant local economy that employs local people and preserves our environment and town, village and rural lifestyle.
On issues currently affecting the Shire…
Rates increases have been too high and many local roads appear to be deteriorating.
I can contribute to keeping rates down based on my previous experience in senior roles in local government bringing strong financial management skills to the role on council.
The Shire must live within its means and provide quality local services to the whole community.
The Shire will face future challenges…
The Main Street reconstruction project needs focus on the way the work will be done so the street businesses are not damaged by lost trade.
More communication on the “how” is required.
I want less delegated authority to the Shire administration and more decisions made by the elected members who are directly accountable to the community.
I can contribute to this debate with the knowledge and experience of how to get things done in local government.
Life as a councillor…
I have the interest, the time, and the energy to represent the whole community.
Some community members will always have different views but I have the personal integrity and strength of character to work through that and contribute to decisions made in the best interests of the whole community.
My favourite thing about living in the Shire…
My favourite thing about the Augusta Margaret River Shire is the friendly local community living in a beautiful natural environment.
