IN A quarter of a century, there has not been a dull moment at Sans Souci Pre-school. Every day is a hoot. Caroline Mansour spent 25 years teaching and chuckling with children — and she might as well keep on going. Ms Mansour has no children, but she calls the preschoolers there her "family". "I love children and I'm creative — I love music and drama," she said. "I'm also not very tall, so I'm a child at heart. "You learn so much from the children and there are so many magical moments you treasure. "Kids just say it how it is." The preschool opened in 1953, when a group of mothers approached Rockdale Council for help in starting a preschool. With some fund-raising support the pre-school was born, and enrolments quickly grew; it now caters for 144 children each week. "In 25 years a lot of parents who I've taught are coming back," Ms Mansour said. "There have also been curriculum changes which give greater emphasis on play as part of the principles in the early years framework." The preschool is putting together a memories book, and welcomes contributions. There will be an open day, 10am-2pm, on August 10; details: sanssouci preschool@gmail.com or 9529 7492.
