The exterior of European Garage is all minimalist chic, grey-rendered walls, darkened windows, pared-back signage. Not your average mechanic's garage in Fyshwick. But it's interior is just as out-of-the-box. Emerging artist PAW has just finished a stunning mural inside the workshop, a previously all-white space. The mural is guaranteed to get high social media exposure with the garage photographing the cars that come in and out against the wall. Garage owners Dean and Amber Hayes commissioned PAW, a young artist from Davao City in the Philippines, now studying graphic design in Canberra, to do the eye-catching mural. "The workshop was full of concrete and white walls," Amber said. "We thought, 'Why paint it plain when we could let some emerging street artists to do their own thing?'." Dean and Amber love the finished product. "We still have more walls to do and will shout out again later in the year for the next mural." PAW's work usually comprises of abstract petal shapes. There are sometimes other shapes or words hidden in his work. It's another example of the evolution of Fyshwick, a garage that specialises in all things European, introducing a little Filipino funk. European Garage is in Isa Street, next to another swish addition to the street, Miko Designs.
