THREE of the UK’s leading wine and food journalists have been experiencing some of the wine regions of Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia over the past two weeks, as part of Wine Australia’s Visitors Program, to promote Australia’s world-class wines to wine lovers in the UK.
The visiting opinion leaders represent media titles including BBC Good Food Magazine, the Daily Telegraph, Decanter, The Drinks Business, Harpers, Off Licence News, Imbibe and Square Meal.
Their Australian itinerary included visits to more than 40 wineries and talks with leading winemakers in areas including Margaret River.
Wine Australia’s general manager, Market Development, James Gosper, said the visit would help showcase the quality and diversity of Australian wines and wine regions.
“The UK is Australia’s largest export market and Australia is the market leader in the UK off-trade,” Mr Gosper said.
Western Australian wine producers included Cullen Wines, Moss Wood, Leeuwin Estate, McHenry Hohnen, Voyager Estate, Vasse Felix, Fraser Gallop, Umamu and Pierro.
In the UK, Australian wine continues to outperform the market and remains the number one category in the off-trade in volume and value.
