Margaret River has been named in the top three Australian destinations travellers would most like visit.
Thousands were surveyed in the mostly online poll “Top 10 Destinations to Experience”, by leading travel website Experience Oz.
Rottnest Island topped the polling, with Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands in second spot.
Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association’s marketing co-ordinator Victoria Johnson said the latest positioning was a leap from last year’s tenth spot. She said the region’s diversity was now gaining recognition among travellers.
“Margaret River is really making a name for itself as being more than just a world-class wine region,” Ms Johnson said.
“Where else can you go for a walk and a swim at an uncrowded pristine beach in the morning, ride your mountain bike through towering karri forest, maybe explore an ancient limestone cave then head out to a winery or a brewery for a relaxing afternoon of outstanding local produce, wine and craft beer?”.
