HISTORY is no longer a mystery for the Year 2 class of St Thomas More Catholic Primary when they visited the Old Settlement building in Margaret River.
Teacher Cheryl Wixon said students were learning about historical sites as a part of their curriculum.
Visiting as part of an excursion, students were guided around the settlement and were shown the various elements of life in the settlement era.
Students were asked to write down what was missing from the rooms in comparison to what they had in their own houses as part of a series of exercises they would discuss in the classroom.
The most notable difference for some students was a lack of fridge, toys and coffee machines.
The power of the fridge idea was highlighted again when students were introduced to a ‘Coolgardie safe’ which used to act as a short lived refrigeration system.
Ms Wixon said the class would expand from their local history to the study of continents and their famous historical sites, such as African pyramids.
