MARGARET River Golf Club hosted the Annual Wealth Plus Finance Mixed Canadian Foursomes last weekend.
Winners of the two-day event were Mal and Kaye Wolfe of Perth with 147.75. Peter Boyanich and Maggie Foy were second with 148.25 and third were Cody Laskey and Mandy Farrell with 148.75.
Margaret River Tank Cleaning & Lago Wines sponsored Scroungers day on Thursday, September 27. Greenkeeper Will Norris (37) beat Vets captain Alan Dale (37) and Rob Young (35). Club champ Marc Halsall shot best gross (29) while Mick O’Hara won the longest drive prize.
Last week’s Veterans comp was a par plus event and Vince Home won with +3 beating Jon Beales (+1) and seven others on a countback for third. Mandy Farrell (36) edged out Laurie Barker (35) to win last Wednesday’s Women’s A-grade division. B-grade was won by Marion Squance (38) with Colleen Marks (34) a distant second.
Busselton Hyundai generously sponsors Margaret River golf and last Thursday’s Scroungers saw youngster Nick House win with an impressive 41 points. Jon Beales (41) was second and Billy Taplin third (38). Blake Glover got best gross (34). New member Megan Booth took out the weekly mixed nine-hole comp on Friday with 18 points. Aileen Budge (16) was second.
Saturday was the Fermoy Estate Men’s Monthly Medal. Blake Glover won nett and gross prizes after shooting an even par round (a sure sign of a good junior). Second on a countback was Billy Taplin with nett 70 and third was Billy Pascoe (70). Juniors seem to be taking over – 12-year-old Nick Liebenberg streaked the field with 40 points to win Sunday’s Kiss Chasey Wines Stableford event. Thankfully old-timer, Steve Owen still has it in him to do it for the “grey-brigade” coming second (36). Winning the Women’s division was Jan Racine (31) from NSW.
