Margaret River’s roller derby outfit the Cabernet Savages will face Geraldton team The Sin City Rollers at their next bout to be held at the Margaret River Recreation Centre.
Dubbed ‘Derby Dancing’, the battle is the latest for the team after a whirlwind 2016 season, which included a visit to the Great Southern Slam tournament in Adelaide.
Margaret River hosted the Derby Fest Homegrown festival last year, which brought skaters from around the State to take part in bootcamp-style workshops and exhibition bouts.
Margaret River Roller Derby President Sarah Kissell said the sport was gaining momentum in the region as more people strapped on skates and got the hang of the objective.
“It is a fantastic way to stay fit, have a laugh, switch off for a couple of hours and get rid of stress,” Ms Kissell said.
“We have a theme for each bout and we encourage people to dress up and get into the spirit of each theme, this time around we are going for Dirty Dancing, or ‘Derby Dancing’, if you will.”
“We’ve already had lots of fun creating the poster for the event and tackling the well known poses from the movie, which has given us loads of laughs.”
Derby Dancing will be held at the Margaret River Rec Centre on Saturday April 8 from 6pm. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.facebook.com/margaretriverrollerderby
