Eddie McGuire says something very similar…but what a big week it has been in the world of Margaret River Cricket!
With record training numbers, the turf wicket in magnificent condition and the players gearing up for their first proper hit out of the season; there isn’t a better time to be a part of the Hawks club.
The Hawks will host both the Fremantle Cricket Club and Sorrento-Duncraig Cricket Club this long weekend in a 50-over match, and two T20 matches.
For what is sure to be a great spectacle, club president James Gannaway said he was excited to unveil the new-look Hawks.
“We have some new players this season and our first import arrives Saturday night so will get a gig on the Sunday,” Gannaway said. “Weather dependent of course!”
“We are excited to see what Ellie offers and to see how she fits into the culture of the club.”
The ‘Ellie’ James is referring to is Ellie Hopkins – sister of 2004/05 Hawks club champion Owain “Hutchy” Hopkins.
The 21 year old arrives from Welsh cricket club St Fagans this weekend and is excited for the season ahead.
To experience living and paying cricket abroad during an Ashes series is a dream for most cricketers and Hopkins will live out this dream with the Hawks.
“The Hawks Club truly is a family club and we also encourage all players, male and female to join up,” Gannaway said.
“We have three grades and all gear so all abilities are catered for.
“Families of our players are also more than welcome to come down to the club and be involved.
“Especially for any FIFO families, we know how lonely it can be so we encourage fly in-fly out families to become Hawks and have a second family to be with.”
The Hawks would like to also thank Bunnings Margaret River for the opportunity to hold a sausage sizzle last Saturday, as well as the community of Margaret River for supporting the cricket club.
The Hawks Board was out in force, with the #futurehawks social media frame capturing many smiling community members who now are in the draw to win a Perth Scorchers shirt signed by several players.
To be in the draw to win a selection of monthly prizes throughout the year, simply take a photo in the frame and upload it to the Hawks Facebook page using the hashtag #futurehawks.
Training is held every Thursday night from 4.30pm at the Gloucester Park cricket/soccer oval.
