Gnarabup local Jane Seman beat world number 5 to take out the Lancelin Ocean Classic for a third year in a row.
Seman was a former World No 3 in wavesailing in the late 90s, but has returned to local competitions in recent years.
Her return follows a lengthy break after two knee reconstructions, cancer, a marketing career and two children.
“I still love riding waves and it’s such a great way to keep fit and healthy. I have to adjust my wavesailing these days to compensate for a few injuries, but competing is a good way to push myself and focus on what I can do,” she said.
The Lancelin Ocean Classic is one of the longest running and best known windsurfing events in the world.
It attracts many of the World’s top competitors who travel to WA for the excellent wind and waves. The men’s wavesailing event attracted three of the World’s top 10. World No. 1 Philip Koster won the event, followed by World No. 5 Adam Lewis and Geraldton local, World No. 7, Jaeger Stone.
Some of these world class wavesailors can be seen at Surfers Point, Margaret River at the Final Trim Bobcats Margaret River Wave Classic held on Feb 3-4.
